EastEnders accused of copying Coronation Street with Jay Brown escort plot
EASTENDERS fans have accused the soap of copying Coronation Street after grieving Jay Brown met a Lola Pearce lookalike – who turned out to be a prostitute.
The car salesman – who is played by actor Jamie Borthwick in the BBC soap – is struggling after the death of wife Lola to cancer earlier this year.
In tonight’s episode Jay was rocked when he spotted late wife Lola in the Square.
He rushed over before realising she hadn’t returned from the dead – it was another woman who shared more than a passing resemblance to Lola.
“You alright,” she said as she spotted Jay staring at her.
Gathering himself, Jay replied: “Yeah… morning.”
Later the woman walked into the pub and struck up conversation with Jay before they went on a walk through the Square.
As she got a phone call, Nadine now having introduced herself, answered and Jay asked if it was her boyfriend.
“He’s not my type but the money’s good,” she said to a confused Jay.
“It’s just a job. It pays the bills and get me through uni. I’d rather get paid to hang out with blokes I actually like though.”
“That’s not really my thing all that,” Jay replied.
Nadine said: “You sure? You have been staring at me all day.”
With that Jay walked off having realised Nadine was an escort but the storyline had many things in common with a Corrie plot from a few years ago.
When young mum Sinead Tinker died of cancer, her widower Daniel Osbourne struck up a relationship with a lookalike called Nicky – who revealed herself as a prostitute.
And fans have accused EastEnders of copying its rival soap.
