‘LEGO Masters’ season 4 episode 2 recap: Here kitty, kitty! Which team was eliminated in ‘Catropolis’? [LIVE BLOG]
Tonight on “LEGO Masters,” the builders take on the cutest challenge in “LEGO Masters” history – building pet palaces for kittens. With 10 hours on the clock, each team must capture their cat’s unique personality and interests to create an interactive space, pushing their creativity to the limits. The duos have the chance to earn the coveted golden brick, offering protection from a future elimination and building pressure to construct the ultimate cat kingdom in the all-new “Catropolis” episode of “LEGO Masters” airing Thursday, October 5 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. With an infinite amount of LEGO bricks, the realm of possibilities is endless. These ambitious teams of two will battle it out for the chance to win a $100,000 cash prize, the ultimate LEGO trophy, the title of LEGO MASTERS and for the first time ever, the winning build will be turned into an actual LEGO set. Actor and executive producer Will Arnett hosts with Brickmasters Amy Corbett and Jamie Berard back as judges.
These are the teams still in the running for this year’s title: Allyson & Melanie (friends), Aubree & Ryan (married), Christopher & Robert (tech bros), David (Poppy) & Ben (grandfather/grandson), Emilee & Kelly (competitive moms), Jordan & Chris (best friends), Karen & Amie (grandmas), Luis & Alex (teachers), Neena & Sam (mother/son), Paul & Nealita (siblings) and Tim & Tim (friends).
9:00 p.m. — Previously on “LEGO Masters”! In the Season 4 premiere, the daring duos embarked on a mission to construct the ultimate motorized party boat–a masterpiece that not only showcased their unique personalities but also created a splash in “Brick Lake.” In the end, mother/son duo Neena & Sam took the top prize. The Brickmasters sent married couple Mike & Brad home for their “blocky” construction of “Bear Shack,” which was missing texture, detail and finesse. Who will go home tonight? “LEGO Masters” starts meow!
9:05 p.m. — The remaining teams return to the build room. Will and the Brickmasters greet them while doing some fake gardening. Next, Will says they’ve built quite a home at “LEGO Masters,” but now they have some friends that need a house of their own. He opens a door to a litter of kittens! In this challenge, the teams will foster a cat and build them the most unbelievable pet palace. Each kitten has specific personality traits the builders have to incorporate into their homes. Amy says teams should push their creativity “to the limits” and read the kittens’ bios as closely as possible. Jamie explains this should be a playful, interactive build. Teams have 10 hours and the clock starts now. Get your brick on!
9:15 p.m. — Sam has cats of his own and he’s already loving this challenge. Can him and his mother repeat their win from last week? Their biggest challenge will be incorporating their kitty’s love of lasers. These cats have various interests ranging from cars to birdwatching to butterflies. All the teams are a little distracted by these adorable furballs, but the building continues at a ferocious pace. A bit of a catfight takes place among the contestants, when teams spar over who has the best tree builds, and if all those teams should even be incorporating trees into their houses. The claws are out!
9:30 p.m. — Amy says she’s most curious to see how the kittens play with the interactive elements of these builds. There are some fun ideas in the room, but who can execute them properly? A few hours into the build, Will says he has an announcement. He shows off a kitten with a shiny, beautiful Golden Brick on its collar. Whoever wins this challenge will be given the Golden Brick, protecting themselves from elimination for one challenge. This raises the stakes! When asked how they think things are going, the Brickmasters sound amazed by the size of these builds. They have great first impressions of what Luis & Alex, Christopher & Robert and Jordan & Chris are doing. The Brickmasters are concerned about Emilee & Kelly, Tim & Tim and Karen & Amie.
9:40 p.m. — Time has expired and it’s time to visit Catropolis! Emilee & Kelly are first with “Sherlock’s Home in Mystery Woods.” Amy compliments the “dynamic composition” and loves the story details. Jamie calls out how small the tree is. Next are Tim & Tim with “Iggy’s Tree House.” Jamie says they have the most impressive tree in terms of scale. There are plenty of arches and balconies to satisfy the cat’s curiosity.
9:45 p.m. — Karen & Amie are next with “Felix’s Fort.” Amy loves that they’ve build a woodland area for Felix to explore, but she’s not impressed by the scale. This build is significantly smaller than others in the competition. Next up are Neena & Sam with “Kitty Pants’ Laze-R Tag.” Jamie says it looks flawlessly supported, which is a testament to their engineering skills. Amy likes the color and says it feels “retro.” Next are Poppy & Ben with “Tiger’s Studio.” Amy loves seeing this duo’s creative side come out today, praising their storyline of using a paint can for a cat house.
9:50 p.m. — Paul & Nealita are next with “Stella’s Fire Engine.” Amy loves that they’ve been ambitious and went “big and bold” with this build. Jamie calls it “instantly recognizable” and “a real wow.” Next, Aubree & Ryan display “Dame Whiskers’ Catwalk.” Jamie calls it “quite impressive” and loves that it speaks to gemstones and luxury. Allyson & Melanie are next with “Coco’s Cookie Shop,” complete with a song to serenade the judges while they view. Amy appreciates how the colors pop, but encourages them to push their scale. They need “to be braver, to be bolder.”
9:55 p.m. — Next we see Christopher & Robert’s “Sir Fluffington’s Abode of Fire and Ice.” Jamie says they did the best job of making sure every aspect of their build was exciting for the kitten. That being said, there’s a LOT going on and they could use a bit of editing. Then it’s time for Jordan & Chris’ “Princess Penelope’s Purr-fect Palace.” Jamie says they’ve build a massive model, but he doesn’t feel comfortable with it from a “safety perspective.” Poor Penelope doesn’t even get to enjoy exploring the entirety of her new home. That being said, she loves the aquarium. Sadly, that’s the only room she can go into. Last up are Luis & Alex with “Sid’s Shed.” Jamie gives this a big “WOW” and says he’s impressed with all the movement. Sid is absolutely captivated.
10:00 p.m. — The Brickmasters deliberate and decide the winner of this week’s challenge and the coveted Golden Brick is Neena & Sam for “Kitty Pants’ Laze-R Tag”! They have narrowly defeated Luis & Alex and this mother/son duo has now won both challenges so far this season. Next the Brickmasters announce the bottom two teams: Jordan & Chris and Karen & Amie. The team going home this week is Karen & Amie. These grandmas will be missed! They say, “Our grandkids are going to be so excited to see what we’ve accomplished.”
