The CMT Music Awards have announced that they will return live in 2024 with a ceremony set to take place on Sunday, April 7, from the Moody Center in Austin, Texas. It will air from 8:00-11:00pm Eastern Time (delayed on the west coast) on the CBS network, and will be available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+ with Showtime.
CMT Awards executive producers Margaret Comeaux, John Hamlin and Leslie Fram said in a statement, “We couldn’t be more excited to bring the CMT Music Awards on CBS back to Austin in 2024! From the electrifying, sold-out Moody Center crowd to fans packing the streets for our outdoor Congress stage, and Bevo himself walking the red carpet, our Texas-sized welcome proved to be one of our biggest and most unforgettable shows yet. We’re thankful to our incredible partners at Moody Center and with the City of Austin and are thrilled to bring CMT’s signature blend of world premieres, genre-blending surprises and once-in-a-lifetime collaborations back this April!”
The CMT Awards honor the best music videos of the year, but unlike the Academy of Country Music Awards or the Country Music Association Awards, which are decided by industry peers, these winners are chosen by fans voting from home. To date Carrie Underwood is the all-time biggest winner at these awards, having prevailed 25 times. That includes a record 10 victories for Video of the Year. But she didn’t take home the top prize in 2023. That award went to Kane Brown and his wife Katelyn Brown for their collaboration “Thank God.” The biggest winner, though, was newcomer Jelly Roll with three trophies.
