Police make arrest after 82-year-old woman is physically assaulted at a CT bus stop
Police have made an arrest after a recent assault of an elderly woman at a bus stop in Groton.
On Sept. 27, Groton Emergency Dispatch received a 911 call around 5:36 p.m. about two women in a physical altercation in the area of the SEAT bus stop on Plaza Court, according to the Town of Groton Police Department.
As an officer arrived at the scene, witnesses described the incident as an unprovoked attack. The victim, an 82-year-old woman, was sitting inside the bus stop vestibule holding a tissue to her mouth. The officer noted that her face was extremely swollen and bruised with a large, bloody cut to her nose, police said.
According to police, the victim had visible cuts on her hands, arms and legs. The officer also observed a large pool of blood on the ground inside the bus stop vestibule.
Numerous bystanders said the female suspect fled the scene and provided the direction she was headed and her clothing description. Arriving officers quickly conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate her, police said.
According to police, the victim was transported to L&M Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After an investigation by Groton Police Department’s Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions, a suspect was identified and a warrant was approved by the court for the arrest of 53-year-old Catherine J. Hudak of Groton, police said.
Hudak was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon and was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree assault of an elderly victim and second-degree breach of peace, according to police.
She was being held in lieu of a $75,000 bond and was set to be arraigned in New London Superior Court on Friday, police said.
