Razorback Run Ends at ITA All-American Championships
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Nine Razorbacks Traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to compete in the ITA Men’s All-American Championships. The nine Hogs competed in the Prequalifying Draw with Gerard Planelles Ripoll going deep in the tournament.
Stephanos Savva won a first round match over Matheo Coupu of University of Nevada 6-3 and 6-1. Savva lost in the second round to Alan Jesudason of Drexel University 6-4 and 6-4.
Jake Sweeney lost his first match to Oklahoma State’s Erik Schiessl 6-4 and 6-0.
Božo Barun defeated Harry Thursfield of Wake Forest University 6-2 and 6-2 in straight sets. In his next match, he fell to Loren Byers of Penn State University 6-4 and 6-2.
Jared Horwood dropped his first match to University of Illinois’ Jeremy Zhang 6-3 and 6-2.
Foster Rogers picked up a win in his first match against Cheng En Tsai of Northern Illinois University, winning the first set 6-4 and the third set 6-2. He was defeated by Jelani Sarr in two sets in the second round.
Benedikt Emesz won two straight sets against Radomir Tomic by scores of 7-5 and 6-3. In the second round, he faced Will Peters of UNC Chapel Hill and dropped both sets 6-3 and 7-5 respectively.
Gerard Planelles Ripoll earned wins in his first two matchups, defeating Tulane’s Rafael De Alba 6-3 in straight sets and defeating Virginia Tech’s Maxime St-Hilaire in three sets, winning the first 6-1, dropping the second 6-1, and winning the third 6-2. In his next match, he defeated Luke Casper in three sets. In the round of 64, he took Ishaan Ravichander to three sets and won. In the Qualifying Draw, he dropped his first match to Boise State’s Samuel Sippel in straight sets 7-5 and 6-1.
Alan Sau Franco earned a win against Juan Sebastian Dominguez Collado of Lipscomb University in two hard-fought sets. In his second round matchup, he lost in straight sets to Oklahoma State’s Leighton Allen.
Connor Smillie faced Christopher Frantzen of Baylor University and dropped the match in straight sets 6-3 and 6-3.
