Paul O’Grady has new hospital named after him – and it’s for a cause that was close to his heart
BATTERSEA Dogs and Cats Home is to name its veterinary hospital in honour of the late TV star Paul O’Grady.
The animal-loving presenter, who died in March aged 67, was an ambassador for the charity.
It followed the success of his For The Love of Dogs show for ITV, which saw 11 series filmed at Battersea.
After his death, it set up a “tribute fund” which has raised £480,000.
Most of the cash will be spent on “life-saving and transformative medical procedures” for pets.
And five other animal charities close to the entertainer’s heart will also get £20,000 each.
Paul’s widower Andre Portasio said: “It gives me some comfort to know that . . . Paul’s legacy will live on.”
“Paul was so passionate in his support of rescue animals.
“It gives me some comfort to know that through the hard work and commitment of Battersea and other charities Paul’s legacy will live on.
“I know that Paul would have been pleased to know that the most disadvantaged animals he was so fond of championing are getting the love and support they deserve.”
