Sports briefs: San Marin starts fast against Terra Linda
Running back Charlie Singleton ran for more than 100 yards in the first quarter to lead the San Marin High football team to a 49-7 road win against Terra Linda at San Rafael High on Saturday night.
Singleton finished with 114 yards on just seven carries and scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Dominic Ingrassia had 196 passing yards, including touchdowns to Wesley Timmel, Matt Goodin and Joey Cipollina.
Ingrassia and backup quarterback Daniel Rolovich both ran for touchdowns for the Mustangs, who led 42-0 at the half.
San Marin (7-0, 4-0 MCAL) travels to face Tam next Saturday afternoon. Terra Linda (4-4, 1-2) has a bye week before hosting Tam at San Rafael High on Oct. 28.
Branson wins by forfeit
The Bulls picked up a forfeit victory against Turlock Christian on Saturday. Branson (4-2) closes the eight-man football season with games against Stuart Hall, Tomales and South Fork.
Girls water polo
Gabby Reichley (18 goals), Hannah Reichley (10 goals) and Cece Dickinson (nine goals) were among the scoring leaders as Marin Academy won the Western States Tournament in Modesto on Saturday.
MA (22-1) picked up a 15-7 win against Ponderosa followed by a 10-8 win against Merced. The Wildcats advanced to the semifinals, defeating Del Oro 10-9. MA capped off the weekend with a 9-7 win against El Capitan in the title game.
MA has one more important game on the schedule before the MCAL playoffs begin on Oct. 25. The Wildcats go on the road to face Archie Williams in a battle on league unbeatens at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
Girls volleyball
Branson announced on Sunday that it will host Wednesday’s MCAL semifinal on campus. The top-seeded Bulls are to set to square off against No. 4 Tam. The MCAL championship game is scheduled to be played at 7 p.m. on Friday at Tam.
