The three snacks I’d never give my kids – they’re full of sugar and there’s a surprise among them, from a dentist
A DENTIST has revealed the three snacks she’d never give her kids, and the reasons why.
The woman, who’s a mum herself too, explained that some things people think are “healthy” are actually packed full of sugar.
“Number one, raisins,” the dentist said.
“Lots of people think that raisins are a nice natural sweets.
“However, they contain so much sugar. A box of raisins contains more sugar than the average packet of sweets.
“The raisins are also very sticky.
“They can get stuck in between baby teeth and cause decay.”
Likewise, she would never give her kids sticky sweets or lollies, such as Drumsticks or Curly Wurlys.
“The more sticky the substances, the more it’s going to adhere in between the teeth,” she said.
“And children, unlike adults, allow sticky things to sit in between their teeth much more without getting irritated by them.
“And again, if that sticks there and stays there, it will cause decay.”
And don’t even think about giving your child a fruit pouch or squeezy yoghurt as a snack.
“Again, lots of these contain so much sugar,” she continued.
“Be sure to read what’s on the packet and have a look at the sugar content.
“A lot of the times, if they contain sugar, they are no good in between meals as snacks.”
Instead, try and give them things like breadsticks, cheese or cucumber as a snack in between meals.
“Are you surprised at any of these?” the dentist, who works for kids’ dental brand Icy Bear Dental Cubs, captioned her video.
“There’s me thinking my babies are healthy eating raisins instead of sweets,” one person wrote in the comments section.
As another added: “I knew raisins would be in here!”
“Raisins and fruit pouches is the only fruit my child will eat,” a third sighed.
“Omg I give my baby raisins every morning!” another mum exclaimed.
However, other parents weren’t quite as convinced by the video.
“Raisins are natural sugar not the same thing,” one wrote.
“Children would never eat anything if we only looked at the negatives, raisins are a great source of fiber, iron, vitamins, minerals and aid digestion,” another commented.
“Mum of 3 here my kids eat raisins and frubes.” a third commented.
“Brush their teeth twice a day.
“Parents just need to brush their kids teeth and there won’t be issues!”
