I have a belly full of stretch marks and wobbly bits – but I’m proud of my mom bod, I don’t want it to bounce back
A NEW mom has given hope to other women coping with their postpartum bodies.
She acknowledged her belly full of stretch marks and her wobbly bits.
But, rather than feel shame, she said she was proud of them because they signified she had created something beautiful in the birth of her two children.
Savannah (@bodypostive_sav), who has 41,000 followers on her TikTok, was in no hurry for her body to bounce back.
Anyway, that was unrealistic she figured: “Our bodies are perfect just as they are,” she said in her post.
“Be proud of your beautiful mom bod.”
In her video, she took issue with the illusion that a woman’s body could return to its pre-pregnancy state straight away.
“Let’s talk postnatal bodies,” she wrote. “As you may know I have two children. The most recent being four months old.
“Now as soon as I had my son I had a major issue with my body.
“I wanted to snap back straight away. I know so many women who go through the same emotions. And it’s not right.”
Savannah said it was an unreasonable expectation and only resulted in putting even more pressure on women.
“No way should it be deemed normal that after having a baby, 14 days later, you’re back down to a size 2 waist. That’s not normal.”
But she had words of comfort: “I think that the one thing that we all need to realize as women is that once you have had a child your body won’t be the same again.
“I mean I have stretch marks, wobbly bits. I have bits of skin that aren’t the same anymore.”
These changes, however, should be celebrated she said, not diminished.
“But our postnatal bodies are something to be so proud of and you should never feel ashamed.
“The stretch marks are my memories, these wobbly bits are my memories. They let me know that I bought my babies into the world safe,” she wrote.
“Don’t ever feel you have to snap back because the celebrities do.
“And don’t ever feel ashamed of your body. You created the most beautiful thing in the world.”
Commenters to her post were reassured by her words.
“Exactly. Our babies are worth every change. Love your vibe lady,” said one person.
Another said: “I had twins four years ago and I’m just starting to love my body so I hear and feel you. Think we just need time to love our new bodies.”
And one guy marveled at what a female body could do: “It’s amazing what the female body can do to harbor and create life. You women are truly the better species.”
