From Marilyn Monroe moments to stiletto woes, five times Kate Middleton suffered some hilarious fashion blunders
SHE might be one of the Senior members of the Royal family, but even Kate Middleton has had funny fashion fails.
Although the stylish Princess of Wales looked incredible in a two-piece as she visited a university in the East Midlands recently, her outfits haven’t always gone to plan – or worked in her favour.
From sudden and unexpected gusts of winds to heel troubles, the relatable mum-of-three has proved she’s just like the rest of us quite a few times.
Here, Fabulous takes a look at some of her most memorable style blunders…
Green dress for a green screen
Whilst abroad during an overseas your in Massachusetts, the USA, Kate and hubby Prince William also took part at the prestigious Earthshot Prize Awards.
The 41-year-old stunned royal fans in a jaw-dropping green evening frock she had rented, as well as a striking emerald green choker that once belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
But after style lovers praised the Royal for rocking a more sustainable option, they soon pointed out to a different potential of the posh dress – using it as a green screen.
Used in the TV and media industry, green screens allow parts of your body to ‘disappear’ by making them ‘invisible’ – and needless to say, the internet went wild.
The show-stopper of the outfit saw Kate being turned into all kinds of things, including baked beans, pepperoni pizza, sweets, fruit and veggies, the Independent reported.
Heely awkward
Stunning Kate, mum to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, also isn’t immune to the odd heely awkward footwear fail.
During a visit to a new addiction centre in Essex, the down-to-earth Royal was left in hysterics after her heel got caught in a metal grate.
Despite the mini blunder, Kate remained calm and collected, as staff watched her skillfully weave the heel out – all whilst heavily pregnant.
After shrugging off the slightly embarrassing moment, the Princess carried on with her Royal duties wearing a a posh £660 coat.
Royal slip-up
Unfortunately for Kate, who swears by a hack to keep her feet pain-free in heels, the shoe woes don’t end there…
The Royal also had a near-miss as she was leaving the Troubadour White City Theatre in London in 2019.
The then-37-year-old appeared to trip as the Royal duo was making their way back to the vehicle – but luckily, with Prince William, 41, by her side the two were able to just laugh it off.
As ever, the elegant mum kept her composure and despite exchanging a few giggles with her husband, she said royal goodbyes to the fans outside.
Caught up
Sadly, 2023 has also seen a few relatable mishaps, with Kate most recently getting caught in her own bottoms.
On a visit to a textiles company – once owned by her great-grandfather – the mum wore a chic forest green Burberry suit.
But as she was snapped getting out of the car, photos revealed that one of her trouser legs had become stuck inside the heels.
As always, however, Kate noticed the red-faced blunder and quickly fixed the mess, elegantly balancing on one leg like a ballerina as she pulled the bottoms out of the footwear.
Her paternal great-grandpa, Noel Middleton, sold the family-run business, William Lupton & Co to A W Hainsworth in 1958.
The mill made the fabric used for the uniform worn by Prince William on his wedding day in 2011 and the adorable jacket sported by son Prince Louis at King Charles’ coronation in May.
We’ve seen Kate incorporate more suits in the recent months, and according to one fashion whizz, Miranda Holder, it might be to do with her changing role as a royal.
Miranda told Express.co.uk: “It was announced earlier this year that the Palace would no longer release details of what and who Kate is wearing.
”Most probably in an attempt to focus the world‘s media on the important work the royals conduct rather than their fashion choices, but despite this recent lack of information, Kate is still hailed as a fashion icon globally, with the ‘Kate effect’ bringing good fortune to the brands she champions.
“Perhaps this is why Kate’s image seems to have evolved yet again, with the Princess wearing more and more suits in her latest role, and wearing them exclusively for royal appointments since she returned from the summer break.”
Twinning
The Princess’ style is often copied by fans of the Royal family – but what happens when Kate arrives to a party sporting an identical outfit worn by another guest?
This unfortunate – and unplanned – faux pas took place in 2014, as the Royal power couple was attending a pals’ wedding in Gloucestershire.
It was at this moment when an unnamed woman, thought to be Sarah Baillie according to Mail Online, realised the 41-year-old was wearing the same blue tweed M Missoni coast she had picked.
The show-stopper of a coat, from the brand’s 2010 collection, is a firm wardrobe for Kate and the mum’s worn it on a number of occasions.
It is believed that the thrifty mum had snapped then the blue coat from her second-hand store Bicester Village.

The Royal family is said to have a nifty fashion hack to prevent dresses and skirts from blowing up in the wind – by simply adding mini weights into the hem.
The late Queen, for instance, was believed to have circular lead curtain weights sewn into all her handmade outfits, which weigh less than an ounce.
But as careful as Kate might be, the mum’s also had her fair share of Marilyn Monroe moments when out and about.
Whilst visiting New Dehli, India, and honouring the 70,000 soldiers who died fighting for the British Army, the Royal battled with the breezy weather.
During a wreath-laying at India Gate, a sudden gust of wind caught the gorgeous £2.4k dress, as Kate tried her best to keep composure and struggled to control the white frock.

Eagle-eyed royal fans also spotted that in 2019 the fashion lover was wearing her £750 Gucci blouse the other way around.
According to the high-end luxury brand, the chic purple blouse with elegant collar detailing is intended to be worn with the buttons on the back – however, the Princess of Wales had given the garment a new look.
Needless to say, despite Kate not following the brand’s original design, the blouse became a hit amongst social media users and it’s since been sold out.
