China’s earthquake relief supplies arrive in Herat
The Chinese government’s first shipment of earthquake relief supplies reached Afghanistan’s Herat International Airport on Sunday and was officially handed over to Afghan authorities.
According to Xinhua’s report, this shipment included vital relief materials, such as tents and rollaway beds, which were unloaded from two Chinese cargo planes at the airport.
China has committed to providing emergency humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, specifically for earthquake relief efforts. The assistance primarily consists of tents, rollaway beds, and warm blankets.
In addition to the government’s efforts, the Chinese mining company MCC-JCL Aynak Minerals Company Ltd. (MJAM) contributed 2.27 million Afghani (equivalent to 30,000 U.S. dollars) to assist families affected by the earthquake in Herat on Thursday.
Afghan-based Chinese citizens also showed their support by donating over 17,000 dollars to help the earthquake-affected individuals in Herat last Wednesday.
Last Saturday, a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit Herat province, causing extensive casualties and substantial economic damages.
Notably, most of those affected by this natural disaster are women and children who urgently require essential aid, particularly in medical care and hygiene support.
This crisis unfolds against many remote regions within the country grappling with a lack of fundamental healthcare infrastructure.
