I found a gorgeous Mulberry bag in a charity shop for £20 – never ever shun shopping second-hand
A BARGAIN hunter has revealed how she bought a Mulberry clutch for the price of a high street bag in a charity shop.
Ellie, who goes by the username The Vanity Case on social media, couldn’t contain her excitement as she shared her epic find that set her back just £20.
Beaming into the camera in a recent video, she exclaims: “I am shooketh to the core about what I just found at a charity shop in Bath.
“I see this in the cabinet,” she says, producing a stunning vintage Mulberry clutch bag from under her arm.
“I’m thinking ‘obviously Mulberry’.
“She’s in the cabinet, therefore they know her worth. How gorgeous is this pouch?”
Ellie brings the bag close to the camera for viewers to see the detailed leather design, the magnetic opening and the classic tartan lining inside.
“I know it’s authentic because I always know to check the serial number on the reverse of the little brass tab,” she says.
“It’s beautiful leather and in fantastic condition. It’s gorgeous, honestly.
“I couldn’t see the price on it so I thought ‘well, I guess there’s no harm in having a look and asking how much it is’.”
Ellie expected the price tag to be much higher than her budget – but she got the shock of her life.
“There was a volunteer on the desk and she said ‘well, if it’s Mulberry it’s going to be pretty expensive’,” she says.
“I said ‘I know, but would you mind just opening the cabinet and letting me have a look?’.
“She took it out, and you could see in her face that she was like ‘oh s**t’.”
Ellie produces the bag again and clutches it in front of her like a prize.
“Twenty pounds. Are you kidding me?
“I don’t know what I’m going to use this for,” she beams, pulling paper out of the inner pocket.
“That’s the receipt because I simply could not believe that it was £20.
“Honestly it kind of goes with this outfit as a clutch. I might try and put a little strap on her, or I’ll use her for some cosmetics.
“This is the charity shop gods rewarding me for shopping second hand for so many years and I just want to say thank you.”
Almost 180,000 people have watched Ellie’s clip on TikTok, and the Mulberry clutch has received some very mixed reviews.
One rude user replied: “I’m sorry but I wouldn’t pay £20…maybe £3.”
A second wrote: “It looks like a complimentary bag you’d get on an aeroplane.”
A third commented: “The volunteer was gutted she hadn’t looked first. What a fantastic find.”
And a fourth agreed: “Classic Mulberry scotch grain leather. If you know, you know. You’ve had a touch there.”
