People are sharing the cheapest way to create Halloween crafts with your kids – and all you need is a used milk carton
SPOOKY season is here and mums have shared the cheapest way to make Halloween crafts with your kids.
Halloween costumes, sweets and treats have doubled in price this year, but decorations needn’t cost you a penny – to make your own ghost, all you need is an empty milk carton.
Mums far and wide have been sharing their kids’ light-up creepy creations, and they’ll keep little ones entertained for hours over Halloween.
Deena, who named herself Abcdeelearning on TikTok, shared her technique online and it’s so impressive, everyone wants to try it.
To start, you’ll need a few empty plastic milk cartons.
Rinse them out and remove any labels so you have a blank canvas to work with.
Use some sharp scissors (adults only, please) to cut a small hole at the bottom of each bottle – big enough to pop a battery-operated candle inside.
Be careful not to use a real candle, as unlike pumpkins, a milk carton will burn over a naked flame.
With a hole safely cut, it’s time for the kids to take over.
Use any coloured marker pens you have to create ghostly faces or spooky patterns on the milk cartons.
When they’re done, pop a fake candle inside and position by your front door.
And there you have it – glow in the dark ghosts!
Deena isn’t the only mum giving her milk cartons an extra lease of life.
Scarlet Lycrois took to Facebook to share her take on the ghostly craft.
“Save your milk bottles for an easy Halloween decoration,” she wrote alongside her how-to guide.
The savvy mum follows the same method as Deena, cutting a hole in an old milk bottle and allowing her kids to get creative with black marker pens.
Instead of fake candles, Scarlet has gone one better and bought glow sticks to put inside each bottle.
Her final picture shows a set of four funny-faced ghosts, glowing in orange, yellow, blue and purple.
Over 2,000 people have liked Scarlet’s project and have been inspired to have a go themselves.
One user wrote: “What a cool idea.”
A second replied: “What a cute idea for the milk bottles.”
And a third commented: “They look fab and so quick to make.”
