I’m a mum-of-6 – people accuse me of relying on taxpayers to care for my kids, if I go onto benefits that’s my decision
A MUM-OF-SIX has hit back at people accusing her of relying on the taxpayer to care for her kids.
The woman already had three children with her husband when they fell pregnant again – and discovered that they were actually expecting triplets.
Since then, she’s been documenting her family life on their Triplets Plus 3 TikTok page, including a recent video explaining why she’s currently not working.
In that video, she said that she’d have to pay £4,000 for her triplets to go to childcare for the 30 hours a week she’d be working.
And even on the government scheme next year, they’d still end up paying £2,000.
She added that their mortgage has gone up by £400 since April, and they’ve got eight mouths to feed, so “not working doesn’t seem like an option either”.
“I just don’t know the answer,” she concluded.
She also revealed that they’d been struggling on her maternity leave, and praised the people who have reached out to gift them second hand things, or to buy things off their online wish list.
“We’re so so luck that people have reached out and they’ve wanted to help,” she said.
“How irresponsible, if you can’t afford children, why have them?” someone commented on that video.
“You’re relying on other people to buy you essentials – i just don’t get it.”
And the mum responded to that in another TikTok video, as she said: “I don’t mind negative comments.
“I don’t mind people trying to call me out if they think I’m doing something wrong.
“But this comment. Just to say, we can afford our children currently,
“We’re not claiming any benefits at the moment.
“In terms of relying on other people to buy us essentials, we haven’t asked anybody to buy us anything.
“But we’re so, so grateful that people have bought us nappies.”
She explained that they’ve been gifted around 25 to 30 packs of nappies in total.
And, as they get through a pack of nappies almost daily, it doesn’t last them long.
“I’m not saying that every pack of nappies I own was bought by some body,” she added.
“I’m just saying that people have been so,so generous, and they’ve reached out and they’ve wanted to help.
“I’ve not gone out there and said, I need people to buy me nappies, otherwise, you know, I can’t look after my children.
“That’s not what I’ve done – it’s just some really kind people out there that want to help.”
She went on to admit that when she fell pregnant, she had no idea she’d end up having three babies.
“We weren’t financially prepared for three of them,” she said.
“So I don’t really see how you can say don’t have children if you can’t afford them.
“We could. We could afford a single baby.
“You know, nobody expects to have three babies”.
The mum continued to admit that while they’re not currently on any benefits, she’s not ruling it out in the future.
In fact, one of the grants they’d applied for as parents of multiples they were denied for – simply because they aren’t on benefits.
They were told to go onto benefits and then re-apply.
“If I decide I do need help in terms of benefits and things in the near future, if I decide not to go back to work, then, you know, I’ve worked for majority of my life,or all of my life, actually,” she said.
“I’ve worked, I paid into the taxes.
“So if I want to use a scheme that I paid into, then I don’t see how that’s hurting anyone, especially as I’m only planning to use it for a short period of time if I don’t go back to work.”
She concluded by saying that the comment is “irrelevant”, but she’d answered it anyway.
“Who plans triplets?” one person commented on the video.
“Some peoples attitudes are ridiculous. Hats off to you you’re doing a great job!”
“Can’t imagine how your coping with triplets, 3 at once is a massive blessing but also I wouldn’t know where to turn bless you,” another added.
“Please don’t explain!”
“Stop justifying yourself to others!” a third commented.
“These hurtful people do not matter in life, you just enjoy that beautiful family you have made.”
