Trump grand jurors to be grilled by co-defendant attorneys: report
Two of the grand jurors in Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis' investigation of the alleged election racketeering plot in Georgia have agreed to sit for interviews with attorneys representing Trump co-defendants Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell, reported The Messenger.
Judge Scott McAfee, who is overseeing the case, made the announcement Monday, saying that the jurors "expressed interest" in such an interview and that it "would be on the record, but not a public proceeding.”
Prosecutors working for Willis have criticized a previous effort to interview grand jurors as efforts to "perform an illegal investigation."
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
However, McAfee has given his assurance he will oversee the interviews and prevent anything improper from being asked.
The Georgia case indicted former President Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants, including Chesebro and Powell, accusing them of effectively running an organized crime ring to overturn the election, with tactics such as declaring fake electors, demanding that election officials "find" extra votes for Trump, and breaching election equipment to hunt for evidence of fraud.
Chesebro and Powell, whose cases will be heard before any of the other defendants, are Trump-affiliated lawyers who are accused of assisting in the plot in various ways. Both deny having engaged in any illegal conduct.
