Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his delight at the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, stating that India welcomes the recognition of the sport's global popularity. In addition to cricket, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved the inclusion of squash, baseball/softball, lacrosse, and flag football. The proposal to include these sports was widely supported, with only two out of 99 IOC members opposing it. The announcement was made by IOC president Thomas Bach after a recommendation from the Executive Board.
