Cricket has been included in the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles thanks to the efforts of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the support of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and broadcasters. The ICC's pitch to the International Olympic Council (IOC) and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of LA28 was based on three core principles: universality, popularity, and legacy. The appeal of cricket in South Asia, particularly India, will bring in significant broadcast revenues, while its popularity as the world's second most popular sport and the commercial appeal of its star players were emphasized.
