The free solution to prevent mould in your washing machine – but if it’s too late there’s a 55p trick that’ll work too
CLEANING fans have revealed how to prevent the build-up of mould in their washing machines… and the 55p trick to get rid of it.
Karen Lines took to social media to share a photo of the issue she discovered in her laundry appliance.
Peeling back the seam of the washing machine, viewers could see a massive amount of mould.
In the caption of the Facebook post, which had been shared in the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group, she asked: “How do I get this off please?”
She added: “I have wiped with a sponge/cloth but still there.”
Mrs Hinch fans flocked to the comments section to share their top tips on the matter after identifying the issue at hand.
One person shared: “My machine is now 6 yrs old. Not a speck of mould.
“After every wash I wipe everywhere down including the drawer & leave the door open & wait till the seal dries naturally.”
Another said: “…I always wipe the door&leave the door open with an old towel so it’s ventilated.”
And a third said: “
While this is a great way to maintain a mould-free washing machine, it doesn’t tackle the active presence of mould.
This is why many others shared a cheap, easy way to get rid of it completely.
“Mine was like that I rolled thick kitchen towel up and put bleach on it left it a good few hours or overnight and it disappeared. I thought nothing would move it x,” one person said.
A second chimed: “Mine was like that I rolled thick kitchen towel up and put bleach on it left it a good few hours and it disappeared. I thought nothing would move it x”.
A third agreed: “Soak cotton wool in bleach n place it around door trim and leave it over night to soak mine was like this and it all came off”.
While a fourth added: “Stuff all the way around the rim with toilet roll or kitchen roll, then squirt bleach onto the toilet roll so that it soaks up the bleach, leave it there all night, then remove the next day and it’ll all be gone”.
Luckily, bleach is a very cheap product and can be purchased for as little as 55p from major retailers.
