George Santos' legal fees and donor refunds have left his campaign coffers almost empty
Due to refunds to disgruntled campaign contributors and his growing legal fees, any re-election campaign Rep. George Santos (R-NY) might hope to mount will be running on fumes, according to his latest financial disclosures.
As Axios reported, the embattled New York Republican who is under federal indictment had negative cash flow over the last three months after taking in just $674 and having to refund $17,200 in the last three months.
According to the report, it gets worse.

Based on quarterly financial reporting released over the weekend, the Santos campaign had $81,000 on hand in July and now sits at under $23,000 at the time of the filing.
According to the report, Santos had to shell out the bulk of the refunds to six donors who maxed on their contributions to him, which had boosted his second-quarter numbers.
"Nearly half of Santos' expenditures for the period — $20,000 — were spent to pay D.C.-based legal firm Dickinson Wright, to which he also owes nearly $70,000 in newly reported debts," reports Andrew Solender, adding, "Santos' debts also ballooned by more than $120,000, with the filings saying his campaign treasurer 'becoime [sic] aware of prior debt' to more than half a dozen aides and vendors this quarter. That adds to $630,000 Santos reportedly owes himself over loans to his 2022 campaign."
Last week, Santos was hit with a 23-count superseding indictment accusing him of "a fraudulent scheme to steal the personal identity and financial information of contributors to his campaign."
