Suspect at large following fatal shooting in East Hartford

The suspect in a fatal shooting is at large after one person was killed in East Hartford on Sunday night.

Police officers, firefighters and medics responded to the report of shots fired at about 8:35 p.m. in the area of Smith Drive where they found a man sitting in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, according to the East Hartford Police Department.

First responders performed life-saving measures on the victim before he was taken to Hartford Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Omar Thompson of Hartford.

Marc Caruso, public information officer for East Hartford police, said in a statement Monday that investigators believe the shooter was dressed in dark clothing and fled the scene on foot after firing several shots at the vehicle Thompson was in. Police tried to track the suspect using a K-9 unit but were unable to find him.
