I was 16 when dad said I could fly to Mexico to meet a man online – we wed afterwards, trolls say he’s a visa-hunter
A WOMAN has opened up on the incredible story of how she met her husband at the age of just 16.
Holly, who is now 20, first met her other half Diego, now 21, while she was at school.
“We met on TikTok back when it was still called Musical.ly, it was back in 2018,” Holly explained.
At the time, she had posted a video on the platform that went viral, leading thousands of people across the world to see it.
Diego couldn’t help but send Holly a message after seeing the clip and the pair began speaking in Spanish.
“We were talking for 10 months before we met in person,” Holly shared. “We made the decision to get married pretty soon after we met for the first time.
“Purely because in my family not a lot of people have got married, I’ve not even been to very many weddings. So I really wanted that big day for us.”
Holly was 19 while Diego was 20 when they tied the knot.
Since the beginning of their relationship, the couple have been the subject of hatred online.
“There’s a big range of hate that we get,” Holly explained. “It ranges from people talking about my appearance and saying that Diego is too good for me.
“And then there’s the other end of the spectrum with people saying Diego shouldn’t be allowed in this country, that he’s just here to scrounge off the government or for the visa.
“But none of that is true. People are just so ill-informed.”
She went on to reveal that her friends doubted Diego’s intentions too and voiced their opinions in a “mean” way, which led her to cut them off completely.
It initially made Holly feel uncomfortable, but the pair have since used the hate to grow their TikTok channel together.
People argued that Diego would leave Holly once he made it into the country, but five years later they’re still together.
Holly then explained that the first time she met Diego was when her open-minded dad took her to Mexico.
“The common misconception is that he flew me out there, I want to make it clear that I paid,” she argued.
Diego said: “I was really nervous actually,” before referring to Holly’s dad, who he described as “tall with lots of tattoos”.
Holly’s dad then shared: “I think some people thought Holly was a bit young, Diego was a bit young. And some of their concerns was that there was an air of irresponsibility from our parental point of view.
“But at the end of the day, all we want is for you to be happy.”
Holly explained that they’re still going strong and “thinking about having kids in a few years,” insisting that they’re “all good”.
She added: “For the people that judge us I just want them to see that we’re a normal couple, we’re people, we have feelings… Yeah, just back off.”
People were quick to comment on the Love Don’t Judge’s YouTube video, titled ‘I Was In School When I Met My Mexican Husband Online’.
One person wrote: “I’ve followed them on tiktok for years. They are seriously the sweetest young couple ever. They have better heads in their shoulders then most middle aged adults.”
Another said: “I’ll never understand why someone is rude and disrespectful. I see two humans who are blessed to find the perfect match. Soooo happy for them,” followed by two red heart emojis.
While a third added: “So young. I hope they can grow together and have a successful life together.”
