Trump spokesperson cries 'absolute abomination' after Judge Chutkan issues gag order
A spokesperson for former President Donald Trump reacted to restrictions on his speech by a judge hearing the federal election interference case against him Monday.
The remarks came after U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Monday issued a limited gag order preventing Trump from targeting witnesses, court staff or special counsel Jack Smith.
"Today's decision is an absolute abomination and another partisan knife stuck in the heart of our Democracy by Crooked Joe Biden, who was granted the right to muzzle his political opponent, the leading candidate for the Presidency in 2024, and the most popular political leader in America, President Donald J. Trump," the statement said.
POLL: Should Trump be allowed to run for office?
"President Trump will continue to fight for our Constitution, the American people's right to support him, and to keep our country free of the chains of weaponized and targeted law enforcement."
While Liz Harrington is Trump's lead spokesperson, the statement was not attributed to a specific person.
Chutkan addressed Trump's freedom of speech in a court hearing earlier on Monday.
"Mr. Trump is a criminal defendant. He is facing four felony charges. He is under the supervision of the criminal justice system, and he must follow his conditions of release," she said. "He does not have the right to say and do exactly what he pleases."
