Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (Mercury News & East Bay Times) girls Athlete of the Week poll.
For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from Oct. 9-14.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and any votes after 5 p.m. on Wednesday are not counted.

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.
Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.
We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.
We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.
On to the nominees:
Eliana Bottene, Miramonte water polo: Bottene, a junior goalkeeper, had six saves against Campolindo (the No. 2 team in California according to MaxPreps) as No. 1 Miramonte won 12-7.Bottene has 112 saves in 18 games.
Lucy Galbraith, College Park water polo: Galbraith, a senior, scored five goals in a 9-3 victory over Clayton Valley Charter on Wednesday night. Galbraith’s big night added to her team-leading 52 goals on the season.
Cecile “Cece” Giguere, Lincoln-San Jose flag football: Giguere, a junior, helped Lincoln improve to 8-2 with victories over Independence and The King’s Academy. Giguere has scored 19 touchdowns this season.
Amanda Gutierrez, Evergreen Valley water polo: Gutierrez, a senior, had 16 saves across two league games last week. Gutierrez, the team’s captain, has helped Evergreen Valley go 5-3 in the league play,
Caitlynn Holt, Christopher field hockey: Holt, a senior, scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over rival Gilroy. In the previous game, she scored four second-half goals to lead Christopher to a 7-1 victory over Branham.
Grace Hui, Archbishop Mitty golf: Hui, a senior, was the medalist in both of the team’s victories this week. Hui shot even par 36 against Presentation, and shot 6-under par vs. St. Francis.
Tasaria Kilpatrick, Leland water polo: Kilpatrick, a senior, scored five goals and dished out five assists in victories against Willow Glen and Branham. The week before, she scored 12 goals at the Arroyo Grande tournament.
Alessandra Nelson, Carlmont flag football: Nelson, a senior, caught six passes for 128 yards and three touchdowns in a victory over Sequoia. She also had three pass deflections.
Anja Perreira, Clayton Valley Charter flag football: Perreira, a junior, intercepted an Alhambra pass and returned it for a touchdown. It was her seventh interception in eight games for the Pleasant Hill school.
Katie Tran, Mission San Jose water polo: Tran, a freshman, sparked a rally against Irvington. Playing in her first varsity game, Tran had three steals and two assists as Mission San Jose rallied from down 4-1 to win 9-5.
