My trick kills weeds in the garden without back-breaking digging – do it in the fall, you’ll be weed-free in spring
A GARDENING guru has shared his method for getting rid of unwanted weeds without the back-breaking work.
His easy and affordable tip ensures that you will be weed-free come spring.
“How to avoid hard work,” said Simon Akeroyd (@simonakeroydgardener).
He wagged his finger as he held up the item he explained you will no longer need: a shovel.
“If your bed is full of weeds, there is no need for any back-breaking digging over of the soil,” he explained.
Instead, Simon demonstrated his more productive way to cover the soil – with recycled cardboard.
Another piece of advice was not to attempt his trick on windy days as the cardboard could indeed be seen blowing over on its side.
“If windy use a log or stones to secure it,” the anti-dig gardener recommended.
The cardboard’s main use was intended to effectively smother out most of the weeds.
His next step towards a weed-free garden involved adding compost to the top of the cardboard.
He demonstrated how it could then be left to rot down in the colder months.
“The cute worms will take the compost down into the soil over winter,” he said.
This is important for one crucial reason.
“You do not have to dig it yourself,” he explained.
One follower had an additional suggestion: “I use newspaper.”
“Great, newspaper works just as well,” Simon replied.
Following this method ensures that your beds will be weed-free and and ready for planting come spring.
He also found some adoring fans.
“Awesome tip,” said one follower.
“Thank you,” the gardener replied.
“Genius tip,” another viewer chimed in.
