BBC News anchor left red-faced after mic was left on during co-stars report in awkward blunder
A BBC NEWS anchor was left red-faced when his microphone was accidentally left on.
The broadcaster’s national 10pm news bulletin was coming to a close when presenter Jane Hill threw to the weather.
Standing by to bring viewers the forecast was BBC meteorologist Louise Lear.
However, just moments into Louise’s forecast a male voice interrupted her.
Staying professional, she continued to talk viewers through the forecast while the man spoke.
It turned out to be the voice of news anchor Jon Cuthill who was waiting to present BBC South Today’s regional headlines.
Jon was blissfully unaware he was already live on BBC One and causing havoc.
He appeared to be talking to his producers – and the conversation made for some interesting viewing.
Jon could be heard letting out a big yawn and a series of groans, as well as asking his director to keep an eye on the time for him.
The journalist also commented on the rainfall Louise had forecast, before loudly shuffling his scripts.
It appears the Beeb realised their gaffe and tried to correct it by contacting the studio but it was too late.
Jon could be heard saying: “Standby, yeah I’ve been standing-by, oh hello – they’re calling you?”
The scenes left viewers at home amused as one said: “Great stuff during the weather tonight. I wonder who’s getting sacked in the morning.”
A second wrote: “That was hilarious.”
“Don’t think John Cuthill at BBC South enjoyed the weather report this evening,” said a third.
While a fourth wrote: “Suggest a very quick apology due to the bbc news weather reporter who your presenter was quite disrespectful to whilst on mic when he didn’t think he was being heard.”
