‘The Amazing Race’s’ Joe and Ian describe their nail-biting rickshaw race to the Pit Stop: It was ‘pure pain’ [WATCH]
After a disastrous Detour in India, Joe Moskowitz and Ian Todd saw their journey on “The Amazing Race 35” come to an end after a nail-biting rickshaw race to the Pit Stop. Sisters Morgan and Lena Franklin and brothers Liam and Yeremi Hykel were in their sights, but one delayed stoplight cost the engaged couple their chance to keep racing for $500,000. Watch Joe and Ian’s exclusive video interview with Gold Derby above.
“It was truly a photo finish for the last three teams,” Ian says. “I think Phil told us it was less than two minutes between all of us coming to the mat.” Joe adds, “It was a chaotic, emotional rollercoaster. At the mural challenge, the last two teams were us and Liam and Yeremi. Morgan and Lena had already left, we thought they completed the challenge and they were on their way to the mat. They weren’t, they were on their way to the dolls because they switched. We didn’t know that. When Liam and Yeremi left, we’re like, ‘Okay, we’re last. Morgan and Lena aren’t even in the picture anymore.’ When we got to the top where our rickshaws were, we saw them. Boom! The race was on.”
Ian explains, “What you didn’t see is there’s a windy, single lane road going from the palace to the bottom of the town. We were behind them for two miles, we weren’t able to pass them. So it was truly a nail-biter for the last 30 minutes of our race experience. As soon as we got to the town we zoomed by them, which is what you saw in the episode. We thought we had it. We knew we could beat them in a foot race. What you also didn’t see is we got stuck at a red light and it was one of those red lights that had a countdown. It started at 120 seconds so we just watched it count down for 120 seconds, which was pure pain.”
The pair also discuss the grueling Detour that took them nearly two hours, a monkey fight they witnessed and which team the would have voted to U-Turn if given the opportunity.
