Horror moment pro-Hamas terrorist is shot dead near top hotel in Jerusalem after stabbing a police officer
A PRO-HAMAS terrorist was shot dead in Jerusalem today after stabbing a police officer.
Footage shows the moment a border guard shoots the 17-year-old Palestinian knifeman from 50 yards away after he attacked a police officer at a petrol station.
During the knife attack, the young terrorist attempted to grab the military police officer’s gun and fire it but he failed before fleeing the scene, chased by a swarm of other armed cops.
He was shot dead a short distance away, close to the American Colony, one of the city’s most famous hotels where Tony Blair lived for five years when he was Middle East envoy.
Cops identified the terrorist as a teenage Palestinian from East Jerusalem.
A border guard officer managed to kill the attacker with a single shot from around 50 yards away.
Horror video footage of the incident emerged soon after, taken by a motorist who had pulled over yards from where the sharpshooter was taking aim.
The terrorist could be seen to slump to the ground as shocked drivers reversed away.
Falafel restaurant boss Abu al Maher witnessed the aftermath of the incident as armed police flooded the area.
He said: “This is shocking but it happens all the time in this city.”
The Sun watched as armed cops flooded the area searching for other terrorists.
The fatal shooting took place at 11am on Nablus Street outside a school and St George’s Anglican Cathedral.
The police officer was stabbed a few hundred yards away. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Centre.
Paramedic Pinchas Butz said: “When we arrived at the scene we encountered a patient with a stab wound in his upper body.
“We gave him first aid at the scene and then he was transferred by a police ambulance.”
Jerusalem’s Old City – home to important religious sites for both Islam and Judaism – was closed off following the attack and the city’s tram network was briefly stopped.
Today’s attack comes a fortnight after two cops were wounded in a shooting at a police station near the Old City.
A spokesman for Israel Police said: “This morning at 11am, a terrorist armed with a knife arrived at the Mandelbaum gas station in Jerusalem.
“The terrorist stabbed a Military Police officer in the upper body and grabbed his weapon and after unsuccessfully trying to shoot, fled the scene.
“As a result the officer was seriously injured and was taken to hospital. Later his condition improved.
“The soldiers of the Border Guard neutralised the terrorist. Later, the knife that was allegedly used to carry out the attack was seized.
“Large forces under the command of the Commander of the Jerusalem District were called to the scene and began collecting findings.
“The Jerusalem District police officers and Border Police are conducting searches in the area to rule out any additional involvement.”
It comes as Israel’s military claims to have blitzed 600 terror targets inside Gaza in the past 24 hours alone in their biggest bombardment yet.
New footage shows Israeli tanks and troops storming through the wreckage of the besieged enclave as the IDF plough on with their “second stage” of war.
The last two nights have seen Israel ferociously pound the Gaza Strip with an increased relentlessness.
Fighter jets reportedly dropped devastating 5,000lb bunker-buster bombs to penetrate Hamas boltholes deep underground in the tunnel network dubbed the “Gaza Metro”.
“Our activities and operations will continue and escalate according to the stages of the war,” IDF spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said.
The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry said over 8,300 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s blockade and bombardment so far.
On Sunday, Save The Children reported more children had been killed in Gaza in just three weeks than had died annually across the world’s conflict zones since 2019.
More than 3,257 children – including at least 3,195 in Gaza, 33 in the West Bank, and 29 in Israel – are said to have been killed since the war began.
The IDF warned Gaza City residents on the weekend that the area is now a battlefield as it stepped up its air campaign against the terror group.
Fighter jets dropped leaflets reading: “Shelters in northern Gaza and Gaza governorate are not safe.”
One million civilians were urged to move south but hundreds of thousands are thought to remain.
Israel declared war on Hamas following the October 7 attacks in which 1,400 Israelis were slaughtered and around 230 were kidnapped and dragged deep into Gaza.
Today, the heartbroken family of missing tattoo artist Shani Louk, 22, announced she was dead.
Israel claims she could have been tortured and beheaded after a skull fragment revealed the “unfathomable horrors” done to her.
The German-Israeli citizen had not been seen since her naked, lifeless body was paraded by the terrorists after she was snatched during the Supernova festival bloodbath on October 7.
As Israel’s ground operation “escalates”, there are increasing fears of new fronts opening up as chaos and conflict spreads across the Middle East.
Today, the IDF today said it carried out air strikes on military infrastructure inside Syria.
And The Sun witnessed Israeli troops in a stand-off with the Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah.
Tanks and infantry were seen in position along the northern border with Lebanon — yards from where Hezbollah rocket teams engage in daily skirmishes.
“This is where the real war will be,” an Israeli commander disclosed.
“The war in Gaza’s nothing compared to what could happen here. This will be different and will go on much longer.”
