Higher child casualties in 3-week Gaza war than annual global conflicts: Save the Children
The Save the Children Organization has reported an alarming rise in the daily number of children killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza, reaching unprecedented levels.
On Sunday, the Save the Children organization expressed deep concern over the civilian casualties, particularly children, in the Gaza conflict. They reported that in the past three weeks, 3,257 children have died, marking the highest toll of child casualties in conflict zones worldwide.
These children have tragically lost their lives not only in Gaza but also in the border areas, which Israeli airstrikes and rockets have repeatedly targeted during this period.
The organization reported that out of the 8,000 casualties in Israeli attacks in Gaza, 40 per cent of them have been identified as children.
Save the Children has issued a warning that with the commencement of Israeli ground operations, the number of civilian casualties, especially children, is expected to rise.
“Three weeks of violence have ripped children from families and torn through their lives at an unimaginable rate,” Jason Lee, Save the Children country director in the occupied Palestinian territory, said in a statement. “The numbers are harrowing, and with violence not only continuing but expanding in Gaza right now, many more children remain at grave risk.”
This comes shortly after the “Global Movement to Defend Children’s Rights” human rights organization reported that an average of 120 children in Gaza and the border areas are losing their lives daily.
The head of the Save the Children organization emphasized that “the only way to protect children is to establish a ceasefire.” Still, Israel has stated that the ground offensive against Hamas has just begun to dismantle Hamas and free the hostages.
