Diamondbacks Fans Resorted to Throwing Paper Planes on Field During Game 4 Loss to Rangers

The Diamondbacks didn’t put up much of a fight during the World Series Game 4 loss against the Rangers on Tuesday night. 

After going down 10–0 by the third innings, fans in Arizona had seemingly lost hope of a comeback victory. While watching their team fail to keep things close against Texas’s red-hot offense, fans began throwing paper planes onto the field.

Multiple paper airplanes could be seen cascading onto Chase Field from the stands, prompting the PA announcer to issue a warning to fans throwing objects on the field, warning them they could face a fine or even an arrest for their actions. 

He was promptly booed, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

Shortly after Rangers catcher Jonah Heim hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 11–1, one plane made it from the upper deck all the way to the infield grass. The crowd at Chase Field then erupted into applause, seemingly excited to cheer for just about anything after several innings of trailing in the lopsided game.

Although the Diamondbacks’ bats managed to find some late life, racking up four runs in the bottom of the eighth and two more in the ninth, their efforts were too little and too late, as the Rangers went ahead 3–1 in the series.
