Sources: Raiders Make Another Significant Coaching Staff Change After Firing Josh McDaniels

0

The Raiders have fired offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi only hours after the franchise parted ways with coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

Quarterbacks coach Bo Hardegree will take over as the team’s interim OC, per Breer.

The changes unfolding in Las Vegas come as the franchise has lost five of its last eight games including back-to-back losses that includes the Raiders’ 26–14 loss to the Lions on Monday Night Football.

Lombardi and McDaniels were in charge of the offensive playcalling for Las Vegas. The two oversaw a Raiders offensive unit that lacked explosion. Currently, the Raiders (3–5) sit at No. 30 in scoring offense in the league, averaging 15.8 points per game.

Even more, Las Vegas has failed to eclipse more than 19 points in any contest this season and the Raiders sit atop the league in interceptions.

Hardegree, in his second year with Las Vegas, previously coached under Bill Belichick with the Patriots, and has had roles with the Jets, Dolphins, Bears and Broncos. He played quarterback at Tennessee in the mid-2000s.

Lombardi was in his second season as the Raiders offensive coordinator before Raiders owner Mark Davis decided to move in another direction. Raiders linebackers coach Antonio Pierce will serve as the interim head coach as Las Vegas begins its search for a new coach, general manager and now offensive coordinator.
