'I don’t kiss and tell': CNN host presses ex-Trump lawyer on whether he was fired
The attorney won't divulge the goods.
Jim Trusty, who served as one of the former president's lawyers in the criminal case where the federal government is accusing him of hoarding classified documents in various rooms at his Mar-a-Lago club, refused to say whether he resigned or if Trump fired him.
During a Thursday appearance with CNN's "The Source" with Kaitlan Collins, Trusty kept mum.
He explained: "The bottom line is I have a responsibility--" and Collins interjected.
"I had to ask."
Trusty told her: "I'm not faulting you for asking, I'm just telling you I'm not a kiss-and-tell guy."
"I'm not going to get into anything."
Over the summer, Jim Trusty and fellow attorney John Rowley resigned from Trump's legal team before he was arraigned in Miami.
Taking his place was Todd Blanche, who had resigned from an elite law firm to take on the 45th president as his client, and attorney Chris Kise.
Trump formally announced the legal lineup change on Truth Social at the time: "I want to thank Jim Trusty and John Rowley for their work, but they were up against a very dishonest, corrupt, evil, and 'sick' group of people, the likes of which has not been seen before. We will be announcing additional lawyers in the coming days. When will Joe Biden be Indicted for his many crimes against our Nation? MAGA!"
Collins then point blank asked if Trust resigned or whether he was fired.
He demurred.
"It doesn't matter," he told her. "It doesn't matter."
"I'm not here to elevate myself or disparage my former client."
Trusty continued: "There was a logical break point. I took the break point and I don't kiss and tell."
According to the indictment, Trump is facing a variety of charges, including willfully retaining a top-secret document that was a “presentation concerning military activity in a foreign country.”
He has pleaded not guilty.
