'Very dangerous': Legal expert shows which witness poses biggest threat to Trump
With the eyes and ears keeping Mar-a-Lago running being questioned by federal investigators in former President Donald Trump's classified document hoarding criminal case, it's his ex esquire that should worry him most.
CNN legal analyst Norm Eisen believes the network's revelation that many of the staff on Trump's payroll — ranging from a maid, plumber, chauffeur and a woodworker are being sought to potentially testify in his forthcoming trial for misusing classified materials is damning but that his attorney, Evan Corcoran might keep him up at night.
"I believe that the plumber and the maid and woodworker and the maid — they'll assemble a mosaic of evidence, but Corcoran was forced to testify about his conviction with Trump goes right to intent," Eisen said. "That is the toughest issue to to prove.
"If you are concerned about your former maid, how about your lawyer who you've confided all the confidences about the case. Very dangerous."
Trump has been hit with a range of charges including conspiracy to obstruct justice, willful retention of national defense information, withholding a document or record, corrupt concealing a document or record, concealing a document in a federal investigation, scheme to conceal, and false statements and representations.
It's the conspiracy to obstruct charge that Corcoran's testifying before a grand jury that may prove especially damning.
He testified incidents when Trump allegedly made statements like, “Well look isn’t it better if there are no documents?” and “Wouldn’t it be better if we just told them we don’t have anything here?”
