'Built upon unpaid loans': Mary Trump shows how her uncle Donald made his fortune
As James Comer and his impeachment crew struggle to make a thin corruption case over a $200,000 loan repaid by James Biden to Joe, former President Donald Trump’s niece spoke up Thursday to raise an interesting point:
“Perhaps it’s not the Biden loan that’s controversial for Republicans,” Mary Trump wrote. “It’s the paying the loan back that’s problematic.”
In a screed entitled “How to Be Corrupt & Get a Free Pass,” Mary Trump critiqued Comer’s case against the Bidens, which recently failed to pass muster with a high-profile fact-check, and compared the case to her uncle’s dealings with his dad, Fred Trump.
“Donald Trump … is deeply averse to paying back money he’s borrowed,” Mary wrote. “My hypothesis is that this is, in part, because vast portions of Donald’s wealth were essentially built upon unpaid loans.”
Fred Trump gave his son about $413 million in never-repaid loans and untaxed gifts masquerading as investments, a relationship the New York Times likened to Donald having his own “Money Store,” Mary noted.
One such exchange saw Fred sending a chauffeur to his son’s casino Trump’s Castle with $3 million in cash to buy chips, Mary wrote.
“The next day, my grandfather wired another $150,000 to the Castle, presumably for more chips,” she said.
“These maneuvers resulted in my grandfather’s having to pay a $30,000 fine for violating a gaming commission rule prohibiting unauthorized financial sources from lending money to casinos."
"But the loans still didn’t get paid.”
Before skewering Donald, Mary took aim at Comer, the House Oversight Committee chairman who made headlines Thursday with reports involving his brother, a shell company and a $200,000 check.
Comer’s investigation, Mary wrote, centers around a check for the exact same amount.
“In 2018, then-private citizen Joe Biden transferred $200,000 to his brother, James,” Mary writes. “Two months later, James and his wife, Sarah, sent Joe Biden a check for $200,000 with the notation “loan repayment” written on the front.
“Sounds terribly nefarious, doesn’t it?”
For Mary, Republicans’ focus on the Biden family funds isn’t about cracking down on corruption but uprooting a president even if it requires “making s--- up."
“They’re all simply acting in the finest tradition of a Party that has no interest in policy or governance,” Mary concluded. “The hypocrisy is just a bonus.”
