Four animation filmmakers will reveal secrets behind their projects when they join Gold Derby’s special “Meet the Experts” Q&A event with 2024 awards contenders. They will participate in two video discussions to premiere on Thursday, November 16, at 6:00 p.m. PT; 9:00 p.m. ET. Nimona (Netflix)
Synopsis: When a knight in a futuristic medieval world is framed for a crime he didn’t commit, the only one who can help him prove his innocence is Nimona — a mischievous teen who happens to be a shapeshifting creature he’s sworn to destroy.
Bio: Nick Bruno’s career has included “Rio,” “Ice Age: Continental Drift” and “The Peanuts Movie.”
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Sony)
Synopsis: Miles Morales catapults across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. When the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles must redefine what it means to be a hero.
Bio: Kemp Powers was an Oscar nominee for “One Night in Miami.” Other projects have included “Star Trek: Discovery” and “Soul.”
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (Illumination)
Synopsis: A plumber named Mario travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother Luigi, trying to save a captured princess.
Bio: Aaron Horvath’s career has included “Mad,” “Teen Titans Go!” and “Teen Titans GO! To the Movies.”
Trolls Band Together (DreamWorks)
Synopsis: Poppy discovers that Branch was once part of the boy band ‘BroZone’ with his brothers, Floyd, John Dory, Spruce and Clay. When Floyd is kidnapped, Branch and Poppy embark on a journey to reunite his two other brothers and rescue Floyd.
Bio: Walt Dorhn’s career has included “SpongeBob Squarepants,” “Shrek’s Yule Log,” “Trolls” and “Trolls World Tour.”
