Sergeant injured in
arrest of bar patron
A Fairfax police sergeant was injured while arresting a public intoxication suspect at a downtown tavern.
The incident happened Monday night at Nave’s Bar and Grill on Bolinas Road, said police Chief Rico Tabaranza. Police went to the bar after receiving 911 calls from customers about an unruly and aggressive inebriate, Tabaranza said.
The suspect resisted arrest, and both he and the sergeant were injured in the scuffle. The sergeant suffered an arm injury and also received stitches. He is on medical leave and is expected to return to work next week, Tabaranza said.
Police arrested the suspect after received a medical examination. Jacob Kinsman, 35, of San Rafael was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of public intoxication, obstructing police and battery on a police officer.
Kinsman has been released from jail pending a review by the Marin County District Attorney’s Office. He could not be reached for comment Thursday.
SAN RAFAEL
Area loses electricity
after truck hits pole
About 840 meters lost electricity in San Rafael after a vehicle knocked down a power pole, according to police and Pacific Gas & Electric Co.
The crash happened Wednesday afternoon on Francisco Boulevard East near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Police closed the road between Pelican Way and Morphew Street.
“The collision was caused by a box delivery truck that cut over too close to the right and sideswiped the utility pole, causing it to come down,” said San Rafael police Sgt. Justin Graham. “Alcohol and drugs were determined not to be a factor.”
Graham said the incident involved no injuries or arrests.
The crash happened in a commercial area. Power was restored to most of the meters by 5:15 p.m., said Jeff Smith, a PG&E representative.
