CT man with criminal history caught with fentanyl, crack and ghost gun. He’s going to federal prison.
A Hartford convicted felon caught dealing fentanyl and crack cocaine while armed with a ghost gun was sentenced Thursday to almost three years in federal prison, officials said.
Traevaughnn Morrison, 27, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Alvin W. Thompson in Hartford to 30 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release after pleading guilty on Aug. 2 to possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, crack cocaine and fentanyl, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
On April 5, 2022, members of the DEA’s Hartford Task Force made a controlled purchase of fentanyl and crack cocaine from Morrison in Bristol, court records show. After the drug sale, investigators reportedly followed Morrison and took him into custody after he parked in a Bristol condominium parking lot, according to court records.
At the time of Morrison’s arrest, investigators reportedly found fentanyl and crack cocaine in his vehicle along with a Polymer80 “ghost gun” with an extended magazine loaded with 21 rounds of ammunition, court records show. Because Morrison’s criminal history includes felony drug convictions, it is illegal for him to possess a firearm or ammunition.
After an analysis of the firearm, officials determined that it had been used in two shooting incidents in 2021 in Waterbury and Hartford where two individuals were injured, federal officials said. According to U.S. Attorney Vanessa Roberts Avery, the government has no evidence that Morrison participated in either of the shootings.
Morrison has been detained since his arrest.
