Iowa could break its own record for lowest total ever in a college football game (AGAIN!)
I wrote last week in this space that oddsmakers couldn’t set totals in Iowa college football games low enough — I was wrong.
This week, several sportsbooks opened the total for Friday’s Iowa-Nebraska at 27.5, which would tie the previous lowest total in college football history … set two weeks ago in another Iowa game. That game was against Rutgers (closing total of 27.5) and Iowa went UNDER the total in a 22-0 win.
The Iowa-Nebraska game has been bet lower, though, to a consensus total of 26 at sportsbooks, including 25.5 at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, which would — for the third time this season! — set the record for the lowest total in college football history since at least 1995 (when totals began being regularly tracked).
This season, Iowa has been an UNDER machine, going 9-2 to the UNDER, but also winning its fair share of games (9-2 overall record). The Hawkeyes have gone UNDER the total in six straight games, all of which have had a total of 28.5 or less.
Iowa has scored over 26 points only once this season and held opponents under 17 points in 10 of its 11 games.
So far, the public hasn’t hopped on board completely, as 57 percent of bets and 63 percent of the total dollars wagered at DraftKings Sportsbook are on the OVER 26.5.
Last week, Iowa-Rutgers was the most-bet UNDER of any college football game at BetMGM sportsbooks.
