'It's all about deflection': Michael Cohen says Trump attacks reveal his insecurities
On the MeidasTouch Political Beatdown video podcast, Michael Cohen couldn't help but note that Americans seem to think that Donald Trump did so much for them when he never did.
Ben Meiselas played a clip of Trump ranting that if Joe Biden wants to make 2024 a matter of saving freedom and democracy, then "bring it on" because, he claimed, Biden is "corrupt." The same allegations have been lodged against Trump for decades. Trump then claimed that Biden is the most incompetent president in history. Trump allies simultaneously claim that Biden is also a criminal mastermind, conflicting with themselves.
Cohen explained that in both of his books "Revenge" and "Disloyal," he talks about Trump's deflection.
"It's all about deflection," he said. "Take a look at my book for example, 'Revenge.' What's the title? 'How Donald Trump weaponized the United States Department of Justice Against his Critics.' So what are we hearing Trump saying? 'Crooked Joe! Crooked Joe! The most corrupt! Weaponizing the Justice Department!'"
Cohen said that it goes to the deflection.
"He knows he's incompetent. He knows that his four years accomplished ugats," said Cohen. "Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. And so, what is he say? He sees Joe Biden's record, and his people tell him about what's going on obviously, but they say it by couching it by saying that's not really how the press is saying it. You would have done better. It's amazing the ass-kissing that goes on inside that small group of Donald's. But he knows what Biden is doing, whether you like Joe, all of his policies, I don't, but you still have to appreciate that this man, who they keep calling old, who they keep calling cognitively impaired, has done more in two years than Trump did in four. He's done more 20 times more in the three year period than Trump accomplished. You can't really point your finger to anything beneficial to America that Trump actually accomplished."
By contrast, he said, the Biden administration has done a lot, from large-scale policies to smaller ones, many of which have been bipartisan.
"So you're like, who should really be kicking ass in these polls?" he asked.
