CT board receives new claim doctor conducted sexually inappropriate examination
A third patient has complained to state medical examiners that she was subjected to a sexually inappropriate medical examination by a Woodbridge pulmonologist with a history of such conduct.
Dr. Sushil Gupta was arrested for alleged inappropriate contact with patients a decade ago, had his license to practice suspended for similar behavior with two patients last year and on Tuesday the state Medical Examining Board voted to add another alleged incident to its case.
The three newest complaints, for behavior between 2019 and 2022, are to be the subject of a hearing by the board. In the meantime, board records show Gupta’s physician and surgeon license remains suspended.
Gupta was arrested and convicted of two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault in 2005, records show. After appeals and an overturning of the conviction, he was given a form of probation that resulted in the criminal charges being dropped.
The board reinstated Gupta’s medical license in 2013 with the caveat that he have a female chaperon present during his examinations of women. In the cases of the three new claims of inappropriate examinations, the board records assert that Gupta violated the terms of his license reinstatement by failing to employ a chaperone.
In other business, the board suspended the license to practice of Jahanzaib Idrees, a surgeon and preventive medicine specialist in Milford, for unsafe prescribing of painkillers, disclosing confidential patient information and sending “unprofessional and/or inappropriate” email messages to “one or more drug control agents and/or state employees.”
Among other things, the board said Idrees failed to evaluate risks of certain pain medications and kept incomplete or inaccurate records.
