Washington jumps into top 4 as Florida State falls in fourth 2023 College Football Playoff rankings

The 2023 College Football Playoff ranking saw its first team fall out of the top-four spots on Tuesday evening.

After three weeks sitting in the top group, Florida State has fallen to No. 5 after the gruesome leg injury that ended quarterback Jordan Travis’ career at the school.

It’s a tough break for the undefeated program to fall out of that spot in part because of an injury, but that’s how the committee felt it should go.

Instead, Washington jumped into the fourth spot, giving Heisman candidate and quarterback Michael Penix Jr. a legitimate shot at a national title as things stand right now.

Georgia maintained the top spot, while Ohio State and Michigan stayed at spots two and three, respectively.

The new rankings also showed Liberty and Clemson make their debuts, Texas and Alabama staying steady at spots No. 7 and No. 8 and Tennessee falling to No. 21.

We’ll be counting down the rankings as they come every Tuesday until conference championship weekend until the College Football Playoff committee determines the top-4 teams on Sunday, Dec. 3.
