Two juveniles charged as police make additional arrests in connection with pair of stolen firearms
Police have made additional arrests in connection with two guns that were stolen in Shelton in October.
Two juveniles were arrested Monday and held at the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Center pending arraignment hearings that were scheduled for Tuesday, according to the Shelton Police Department.
The arrests stem from an incident reported on Oct. 17 when a pair of firearms were stolen from a Shelton residence, police said.
One of the juveniles arrested Monday, a 15-year-old from Shelton, faces two counts each of illegal transfer of a stolen firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit. The other juvenile, a 16-year-old from Shelton, has been charged with two counts each of stealing a firearm and illegal transfer of a stolen firearm.
Shelton police investigators believe the firearms changed hands with multiple individuals after they were stolen. The investigation included search warrants being carried out at residences and vehicles in Shelton, North Haven and Derby. The stolen guns were found in October in Shelton and North Haven, according to police.
Two teens previously arrested in connection with the stolen guns include Jaiden Lanzi, 18, of Shelton and 19-year-old Jason Smith of Derby. They were arrested about a week after the theft was reported and were each charged with theft of a firearm, illegal transfer of a stolen firearm and improper storage of a firearm.
Lanzi has also been charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor.
Smith and Lanzi are each being held on $150,000 bonds. Their cases are pending in Derby Superior Court.
