On Friday, a reissue box set of WAR’s “The World Is a Ghetto” arrives. The Associated Press’ Ron Harris writes in a review that the nicely packaged rendition of the band’s best-selling album includes bonus tracks as well as entire LP sides of WAR working through some of its best known songs, such as “The Cisco Kid.” The band, with its Latin infused rhythms and rolling bass lines, was quickly adopted across cultural boundaries and became an early 1970 feel-good group at a time of political and world turmoil. The package includes a 25-minute track revealing how “The Cisco Kid” came together.
