Chuck Grassley mercilessly mocked for 'wholesome' Thanksgiving tweet
Like many Americans, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) spent the Wednesday before Thanksgiving cleaning the house, bragging about his 45-year-old Hoover Heavy-Duty Concept 2 with "Power Drive" technology as he prepared for the holiday.
Grassley, who turned 90 years old this year, is the eldest member of the Senate by eight years, but he showed off his cleaning skills and keen sweatpant-fashion in a holiday tweet while cleaning the carpets — as a stuffed gnome looks on.
The vacuum — which he apparently calls Beth — was shown off to his social media audience for a moment of levity.
But, while Grassley was singing the praises of the machine half his age, foes responded with their own criticisms.
"That vacuum is too old to be in the senate, now imagine the operator!" said X user @WVU185.
"You’re going to make someone a good wife someday Chuck," joked @BillyMarkJack2.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) suggested: "If we put that vacuum on Antiques Roadshow we could probably pay down the debt."
"Why does Iowa keep electing this dinosaur….isn’t there any intelligent life in that state," complained @WUTangKids.
"If your U.S. Senator still uses a vacuum like this, it’s time for a new U.S. Senator," Luke Stalzer also wrote.
A similar post came from @Chicaneryolover, who said, "Chuck is all wholesome like this, but next week would probably vote to privatize all schools."
Another observer pointed to how things like this impact policy.
"And we wonder why Congress doesn’t pass AI regulation," said John E. Gibson.
Christopher Wensley pointed out: "Just a reminder that this man is worth $18 million dollars."
"James B. Kirby himself sold that sucker to Chuck," joked @HeidiOCanada. Kirby crafted the self-taught electrical engineer who revolutionized the concept of the vacuum and made it accessible to individual homes. His goal in life was to use machines to help make housework easier, the company's website says.
"That vacuum is gonna run for senate," Emilie Frank suggested.
"It’ll win despite opposing school de-segregation in the 1970s," replied William Youmans.
Others agreed that given the demographics of Iowa it would likely win the office.
