Forget gonks – festive rats are the must-buy for Christmas & fans are already racing to nab them at local garden centres
GONKS, move aside – there’s a new Christmas buy in town and shoppers are going totally wild for it.
Gonks may have held the number one position as the most sought-after Christmas decoration for the last few years, but it seems that this festive season Brits have become bored of the classic and want something new.
That something new, turns out, is… a festive rat. Yes, you heard it right.
According to fellow Christmas fanatics, rat-inspired plushies are the latest trend to hit the stores and garden centres around the UK, with almost everyone racing to snap up one – or more.
Available in a number of retailers, including QD Stores, Etsy, Amazon and even your local Aldi, the Christmas rats come with a longer pair of legs, adorable buttons, red boots, as well as a hat.
The supermarket Aldi offer the cheeky decoration for £12.99 and it’s even complete with mittens and a deep red bow – we seriously cannot get over how cute these are.
And neither can shoppers, as some have admitted they loved the décor so much, they were even willing to buy one with a missing eye.
Meanwhile, others made sure the rat arrived home in one piece, carefully strapping it with a seatbelt in their cars.
However, if you’re keen to get your hands on the festive rat yourself, you will need to be quick, as Christmas fans have warned many stores are running low on stock.
Even Amazon shoppers are advised to not waste any time, especially as Christmas is just a month away – a number of designs only have a few copies left.
The online retailer offers the plushie for as little as £9.99, though the average price appears to be around the £20 mark.
Will you be racing to get one? We for sure will and we cannot see how you’ve decorated your homes.

Speaking of all things Christmas, one person’s started a new petition, demanding others to go all out with their decorations and embrace the tackiness.
We’ve seen a great number of people sticking to the so-called ”sad beige” aesthetic – but one woman you will never see follow this trend is TikTok user Lyndsey Chachki.
In her eyes, there’s simply no such thing as going overboard with tinsels and baubles in different colours – and she’s even attempted to get others to join her.
”Make Christmas tacky again – who is with me?” Lyndsey urged in her video.
”I want the train around the Christmas tree, I want the tinsel, I want the colourful lights, I want the handmade ornament.
”I need to feel something – and that feeling is cosy nostalgia.”
She went on: ”I wanna feel something and beige isn’t cutting it.
”If you are sad beige Christmas, aesthetically-pleasing – that’s fine, it’s beautiful, honestly.
”But I’m gonna need this. Make Christmas tacky again.
”90s-colourful-cozy nostalgia-maximalist is the vibe we’re going for.”
