All the rail lines affected by closures on Christmas Eve
Rail passengers have been warned of major disruption to services expected on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and December 27.
People hoping to travel in and out of London on Christmas Eve will be particularly affected, with lines from three key stations in the capital closing December 24.
The lines between Leeds and Wakefield as well as Southampton Airport and Bournemouth will also be closed all day, while York-Darlington services will end early in the evening.
The Great Western Railways (GWR) mainline between Paddington and Ealing Common will be out of action to allow for HS2 works.
This means passengers travelling to and from South Wales and the west of England will have to change at Reading Station, adding around 90 minutes to journeys in and out of central London.
Heathrow Express services will also not run, and Elizabeth Line trains will not travel between Paddington and Ealing Broadway.
King’s Cross will largely be out of action as the East Coast mainline will be shut between London and Peterborough, affecting LNER, Hull Trains, Grand Central and Lumo services.
Thameslink will continue to run services from the station, although services will end early and parts of its network will be replaced by buses.
Victoria station will also be heavily affected by engineering works forcing several Southeastern lines to be diverted or part-closed.
The Sole Street and Maidstone East lines to Kent will instead run from London Cannon Street, while trains to Orpington will run from Blackfriars.
The Bexleyheath line between Victoria and Dartford will close, with some additional Dartford services added from Charing Cross.
Other services such as the Gatwick Express will continue.
GWR says the same disruption on Christmas Eve will occur on Boxing Day and December 27.
Furthermore, on the morning of Boxing Day trains will not run as far as Slough.
