YouTube Gold: Willie Nelson And Snoop Dog Celebrate Their Favorite Vice
Willie Nelson is in his 10th decade if you can believe it.
Willie Nelson has had a long and remarkable career. Now 90, he’s still performing and recording.
His range is insanely wide; he’s done country, jazz and great American standards. One of his finest albums is Stardust, which he recorded in just a few days.
He’s also known for his love of, whatever you want to call it, pot, reefer, herb, smoke. Whatever you call it, he has long had a taste for it, and that’s something he shares with Snoop Dog.
Nelson quit smoking it a few years ago, which was probably wise because at his age - he turned 90 in April - there’s a limit.
It’s more surprising that Snoop recently said he quit smoking too. It’s a key part of his identity: everyone knows Snoop loves to smoke.
Hilariously, he said that Nelson was the only person he’d ever met who could outsmoke him but those days are over for both of them. Smoking anything is a bad idea and decades of serious abuse would damage anyone’s lungs, and these guys both make a living from their lungs.
However, one of the better songs of Nelson’s later years is called “Roll Me Up And Smoke Me When I Die,” and he got Snoop Dog to perform on the track, along with some other major stars.
This clip is from a performance on Nelson’s 90th birthday in the Hollywood Bowl. Snoop came by and helped his buddy celebrate. No one can say how many more celebrations are in Nelson, but you should be so lucky to do this at 90.
