Bears Insider Reveals Top Candidate To Replace Matt Eberflus

0

Things are coming a little bit more into focus for the Chicago Bears with six games left. If there is any of the big three names who should fear for his job at the moment, it’s head coach Matt Eberflus. Despite an improving roster from GM Ryan Poles and some excellent performances from quarterback Justin Fields, the man continues to lose games. He’s 6-22, the worst winning percentage for any Bears head coach in history. If that weren’t bad enough, his defense is still at the bottom of the league in points allowed. It has gotten to a point where one must ask what Eberflus brings to the table.

Barring an unexpected string of victories down the stretch, the general consensus is that Eberflus should and will be fired. For weeks, Adam Hoge of CHGO wasn’t ready to commit to that idea. However, the brutal 4th quarter collapse in Detroit last week changed things. He’s getting the sense that defeat was disastrous for Eberflus. It raised the conversation of who the Bears may target for a replacement after the season ends. Hoge discussed this with fellow insider Adam Jahns on the Hoge & Jahns podcast.

One name stood above the rest in their mind.

Jim Harbaugh feels like an obvious Matt Eberflus replacement.

Things are lining up. The head coach faces stern disciplinary action for a sign-stealing scandal at Michigan. Most insiders believe he will use it as a cover to make his NFL return. Rumors connected him to the Bears and Raiders. Hoge is the latest to mention the name. His track record as a winner is impossible to argue. The guy has a winning record with every organization he’s worked for. He has a sharp eye for talent and proved with Andrew Luck, Alex Smith, and Colin Kaepernick that he can develop quarterbacks.

His connection with Kevin Warren makes it even more obvious. The Chicago Bears president knows his reputation and knows how much the job would mean to him. It comes down to whether Warren feels he can handle Harbaugh’s contentious personality. He’s outspoken and prefers to have things done his way. It is one of the reasons things fell apart for him in San Francisco. He was constantly at odds with GM Trent Baalke. Can he avoid similar problems in Chicago? Hoge and others wonder if this new Bears regime will be willing to find out if Matt Eberflus can’t rally.
