Central Catholic wins 6A title; Wilsonville wins 5A
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- For the second time in 3 years, Central Catholic defeated Tualatin to win the Oregon 6A football championship.
Central Catholic dominated play throughout the game to earn their latest title. The Rams also beat Tualatin in 2021. In fact, it is the 5th state title for Central Catholic in the last 10 years.
Tualatin scored first after a 7-minute drive to take a 7-0 lead. But Central Catholic evened it up on their first play after the kickoff, a 76-run by Killian Somboy.
The game went back and forth as Tualatin took a 21-14 lead. But the Rams then put their vice grip on Tualatin to take control of the game.
Quarterback Cru Newman threw for 346 yards, rushed for 96 and scored twice as Central Catholic defeated Tualatin 49-21.
5A title game
The second game of the title doubleheader featured Wilsonville versus Mountain View in the 5A match, a game that saw Wilsonville come from behind to win, 29-23.
Mountain View came into the game undefeated. Wilsonville’s lone loss this year was to 6A title finalist Tualatin.
In the end, Wilsonville proved to be too much for Mountain View and earned the state title after years of being so close.
Both games were televised on Portland's CW.
