Sports briefs: San Anselmo’s Shott wins NCAA D-III soccer title
Former Archie Williams standout Elisa Shott played 71 minutes in a 1-0 victory over Washington University to help lift the Cal Lutheran women’s soccer team to its first NCAA Division III national title.
The Regals (19-1-6) made history becoming the first unranked team to win the tournament.
Shott had an assist in the round of 16 win against Hardin-Simmons on Nov. 18 but her most significant contribution during the title run may have come in the semifinals against Tufts on Thursday.
Shott took a corner kick in the 18th minute that led to Cal Lutheran’s only goal in regulation. The Regals took out Tufts 4-3 on penalty kicks to move on to the final.
Shott, a junior, saw more time on the field as the Regals advanced in the competition, playing less than a half in the first two games before playing a tournament-high 71 minutes in the title game.
For the season, Shott started 18 of 26 games and played 1,002 minutes, netting four goals and four assists. Shott graduated from Archie Williams in 2021, earning an all-league honorable mention nod for that season.
