A judge has finally made it clear that a president can be put in prison: legal expert
Former prosecutor and #SistersInLaw co-host Joyce Vance said that for the first time in all of the cases involving Donald Trump, a judge has made the case that the former president could be sent to prison if convicted.
Among the things in Judge Tanya Chutkan's ruling at the end of the week was the explanation that Trump, like any other person in the United States, can be investigated, indicted, prosecuted, convicted, and face punishment for any of his criminal acts, said MSNBC host Ari Melber.
"This seems to be the real kind of hard-line that Trump may not want to hear and his lawyers hope would somehow be sort of bargained away in Georgia, the time, the calendar may be on their side," Melber continued. "This is against the backdrop of the other story, which is Liz Cheney and others warning about Trump running for office and likely trying to do it all over again. Not remorseful at all, if anything, take federal power and pardon the people who are currently incarcerated for related acts."

Vance said that in the past, there has been this speculation that Trump can't possibly go to prison as a former president because it would be so difficult for the Secret Service to handle.
"But the reality is we all watched January 6th on national television," she said. "And we now have a defendant in a criminal case who has not made any remorse for his conduct. In fact, he's doubled down. He is, in essence, vowing to do more and to do worse in a second term, as we have seen in recent reporting, talking about his 2025 plan. And so, the courts are faced with a stark decision, holding him accountable, or letting him almost certainly try to get away with it a second time."
Vance said it's important to see judges "standing up for what our common sense tells us. It's the only possible outcome."
